I went to a cafe by the creek, wanting to stay close to the sun and fresh air while working. The guy next to me asked to borrow a pen twice. I noted he had a tattoo on his left arm “𝓭𝓲𝓮 𝓽𝓸 𝓵𝓲𝓿𝓮”.

Before I left, I asked him about the big scorpion tattoo on his right forearm. He told me he was a Scorpio, and he was reading Bittersweet: How Sorrow and Longing Make Us Whole by Susan Cain, a very Scorpio coded book title.

(one of his dogs was named Marty ~ etymology derived from Mars, ruler of Scorpio)(not me being wowed by astrological patterns every day)

I almost asked him if he knew his Moon sign. Instead, I asked him what his next tattoo idea was, which he’d just jotted down using my pen.

My natal Moon is in Aquarius. When I first heard a recorded mini Moon reading from my first astrologer, I burst into tears.

Some tears feels like a melting away of shame. Aquarius feels the pain of un-belonging, the perpetual shame of all outsiders looking into the center.

Strangely, my sister also has an Aquarius Moon.

On random days I wonder how we both ended up as Aquarius Moons, just a few degrees apart, and what this says about our mother. (The Moon has to do with our mother)

The more I learn about the Moon, the more I feel how important it is we start here to touch into where we are now.

The Moon is the closest celestial body to Earth, and the quickest to move through all twelve zodiac signs in one lunar cycle, spending approximately 2.5 days in each sign. Every month, we experience our lunar return.

You could say it’s a monthly birthday for our earthly and emotional bodies, a good time to cherish your body in a way that feels nourishing to you.

At my exact lunar return on Friday, I found myself working. My Moon sits in the tenth house of career and becoming, so… go figure?

When Pluto re-entered Aquarius in January 2024, I took my Aquarius Sun friend to a flotation tank to commemorate the significance of Pluto - planet of the underworld - moving into a new sign.

The first time in the floatation tank, I tried my hardest to relax, bobbing along salted water. It was like being at sea, except cocooned and dark.

Aquarius is the water bearer. Our bodies are made up of a lot of water, but waters (bodily fluids and emotions) can stagnate if not tended to.

We’re on the other side of this Full Moon in Aquarius, illuminating a stalemate into something we can shape with our imaginations. There’s been a build up of a Mars - Saturn opposition this last few days, a prickly START-STOP-PUSH-PULL situation. This can be a time of stress and stretch on systems, including our nervous system.

Where can you work a little less hard to lessen the intensity of the moment?

I’ve been in a personal moment of re-parenting my Moon the last few years, as Pluto began approaching my Moon - an excavation of the root of deep attachment wounds, so many prickly bits that feel pre-verbal, tucked into the folds of my tissues and the implicit memory of my body.

This has meant:

🔹 learning more nuanced language to notice what I’m feeling, identify what my needs and urges are, then actually express them instead of suppressing them.

🔹 allowing myself to be intimately supported by therapists, astrologers, body-workers, coaches and skilled practitioners of many kinds.

🔹 letting my loved ones into my messy process, when I’m still feeling vulnerable, when I haven’t figured everything out yet.

In unhinge moments I still feel like an adolescent at this feeling your feelings business.

Yet, from the New Moon in Aquarius in January till this Full Moon in Aquarius, I can say I am no longer staying cool with everything until it isn’t cool for me anymore.

In astrology, our Moon sign reflects our feelings, mood, core needs and how we process experiences subconsciously. While our Sun sign is about our most central Self and essence, our Moon sign relates to the physical realm of the body and how we find emotional fulfilment.
